Appeals Process

School placement appeals are heard through the Admissions and Discharge (A&D) Committee.  The A&D Committee is made up of administrators from each of our non-referring high schools. An administrator from the school of denial/revoke and the parents are allotted 15 minutes to state their sides of the case to the panel.  The panel then reviews both sides and makes a determination after the hearing.

School of Choice:

For School of Choice denials, there is not an appeals process.  School of Choice approvals and denials are based upon the open number of spaces and the schools capacity. When the school is near or at capacity as a whole or in a specific grade level it is considered closed for transfers.

For School of Choice revocations, you may request an A&D appeal within 10 days of receiving the revocation notice. The A&D panel's decision is final.

InterDistrict Transfer Agreement:

If your students InterDistrict Transfer Agreement was denied or revoked, you may appeal with the District that denied or revoked your student.

If CUSD was the District of denial or revocation, you may request an A&D appeal within 10 days of receiving the notice.

If the A&D panel upholds the denial or revocation, you may then request a appeal with the Orange County Board of Education within 30 days of the denial notification.

If CUSD was not the District of denial or revocation, please contact the other District directly for an appeal.

Administrative Placement:

If your request for Administrative Placement has been denied or revoked, you may request an A&D appeal within 10 days of receiving the revocation notice. The A&D panel's decision is final.

Involuntary Transfers:

If your students is being involuntary transferred to another school, you may request an A&D appeal within 10 days of receiving the notice. The A&D panel's decision is final.

For all other appeals including classroom change requests, please follow the District complaint procedures.
