Grades 7-12 students who are suspended for 48900 Education Code violations from a Capistrano Unified School District school are eligible to attend the Alternative to Suspension class.

Students must be referred by an administrator from the school they attend.

The Capistrano Unified School District Alternative to Suspension program is a district operated classroom for students who are suspended for 48900 Education Code violations. The students are under the supervision of credentialed teachers and counselors who will present a curriculum that offers a proactive, therapeutic approach to instilling the skills, habits and behaviors necessary to be successful in school and life.

Students who successfully complete the program will not reflect a suspension from school on their attendance record unless the student is pending expulsion.

Parent’s Letter:

When I got the call from school that my son had been involved with alcohol on campus, a wave of nausea rolled through me. I just couldn’t believe it. My son is a good athlete, works hard, gets decent grades, is friends with many and is really looked up to by a lot of kids. Drinking at school was just a big questionmark in my head…

I wouldn’t wish for anyone to go through what we did, but I am very thankful that my son had the opportunity to attend the ATS Program. I think every child would benefit from this kind of education. I feel strongly that this program saved my son from a much bigger harm down the road.

Parent’s Letter:

We wanted to thank you and the school for all of your support of my son. The school and ATS have been great. It is definitely a very good program, so hopefully it will benefit many other kids and families for years to come. My son is looking forward to going back to school tomorrow.
